My own story with the Sanborn maps began when I first saw this blog post from Jason Kottke in September of 2011. The post sent me down a rabbithole of learning more about them and trying to find more of them.
And in fact, when I got married six months later in February of 2012, I designed our wedding invitation off of the maps.
However, if you spend any time exploring the maps, you'll realize that it's actually hard to specifically look for all of the typography and art that exists within the entire collection. While there have been a few times when designers and font nerds have collected some of them, no one has specifically focused on collecting and organizing all of the art from the maps. That's what this collection is dedicated to.
